Mr Michael Smurfit , the then Chairman of TELECOM  , the State-owned Telecommunications company of Eire , had a 10%
interest in UNITED PROPERTY HOLDINGS which bought a site in Ballsbridge in Dublin formerly occupied by JOHNSTON,
MOONEY & O'BRIEN ( master-bakers ;  one of whose directors was the late Sir Basil Goulding ).
After a complicated series of transactions involving the site( and which involved off-shore companies ), the site was eventually bought

Spokespersons for Mr Michael Smurfit had originally denied that he had any financial interest in site but a government report later
confirmed that , in fact , Mr Michael Smurfit , had benefitted financially from the sale.
